After the Tumblr101 session put on my RVA Social Media Club, I’m relaunching with a greater sense of purpose.  There’s only one or two real people following me out there, but if you want to stay updated you can check out these URLs…

HireSteveT.tumblr.com (an attempt to use tumblr to help me find a new job)

JoblessHumor.tumblr.com (a comedy blog about the weird world of funemployment)

or

XYGen.tumblr.com (a comedy blog with pop culture references from the generation that was too good for 1 letter).

Tumblr event

Im at the Social Club Media Richmond’s event: Tumblr101. Its pretty awesome.

Tumblr101

This evening I’ll be attending the Richmond Social Media Club’s event Tumblr101. I’m really excited to learn more about tumblr, and hopefully become a power user. Of course, I’d also like to join the Tumblr team, so here’s to hoping I meet some influential people.

Charity…

Alex & I

Recently, I lost my best friend Alex at the young age of 31.  What few people knew, is that Alex struggled his entire life with Cystic Fibrosis.  He lost his twin brother at 9 months old to the same disease, and his parents have now said goodbye to both of their children.  This year in Alex’s memory, I (and many of my coworkers) will be walking in the Great Strides walk to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

To be honest, I am not a person who often donates money to a cause.  I’d much prefer to give my time, my sweat, and my attention to a friend, or foundation then I would donate blindly to an organization.  I believe that charity begins at home, and I’ve helped financially support my own family members in need for years.  Alex’s recent passing has made me rethink my position on donating to charities.

In the past, had I been asked to donate a day of my time, I would never hesitate to do so.  When reconsidering the same question after Alex’s passing I asked myself, what is my day worth… and then I realized, I could easily calculate the answer.  This year the average employee will each work 236 days, having excluded holidays & the average 3 weeks of vacation.  So I grabbed a calculator and divided my annual salary by 236… just my base salary… and I was shocked to see how much I had actually been willing to give in the past.

If you’re one of the few people who may read this blog, please take a moment and consider donating a day, a half day, or even an hour to Alex and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  My little brother donated $3.50 because that’s all that he could afford.  Please understand that no donation is too small.  Every single contribution has my eternal thanks, and a heartfelt meaning to me.
